Switching suppliers. Will I have to pay back my Warm home discount?
Hi,
I want to switch suppliers. It says I can save £180 a year!
I can't seem to find any information on the warm home scheme.
I received it this time but what I need to know is, if I switch suppliers to one that doesn't support the scheme, will I have to pay back what I have received?
I have just updated my meter readings and I am £25 in credit, but the warm home discount I've read is for October to April so I don't know if I'd have to pay some of the money back as I am switching before April?
I won't get the discount this year as I am going to be a student from September so I don't need a supplier that supports the scheme.
I'm quite confused about it and can't seem to find any answers to my question.

Details of the Warm Home Discount can be found on the Govt website - https://www.gov.uk/the-warm-home-discount-scheme
where it states - "You qualify for the discount if on 10 July 2016 all of the following applied:
your electricity supplier was part of the scheme
your name (or your partner’s) was on the bill
you were getting the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit (even if you get Savings Credit as well)"
I would be surprised if the energy company you are with would claw back the payment when you change supplier but to be on the safe side you should ring them and ask about this.0 -
No you do not lose your WHD, the same as you would lose your WHD, if you left before it was issued.0

I want to switch but I am stuck as my Quidco collective runs out Feb17 but my Warm Home Discount has not been paid yet by First Utility, they can take up to May 17 to pay. I have checked, I will lose the discount £140 if I switch to EDF before it's paid in my account. Just thought everyone should be warned. If you are not automatically entitled and claimed last year be careful to calculate into the costs.0
