Yahoo problems

For quite a long time, (back when Outlook Express was working), I forwarded my mail from Yahoo and Google to OE. I have since changed to Windows Live Mail 2012 and up until a couple of days ago had no problems.

But the other day I had a message from Yahoo about changing security for login?! I clicked on something asking to upgrade security so as to not log on through certain apps, (can't remember exactly what).

I changed it on my tablet, Lenova, and all seemed OK, but this morning I cannot log on via my desktop, (Windows Live Mail 2012), I got on via my tablet but had to reset password/key, i.e. they sent me a key number to unlock, this has worked for the tablet but I cannot get the Yahoo mail onto my desktop, it keeps asking for my password which I keep giving, but it continues to say it is the wrong one.

When going straight to Yahoo on my desktop it would not let me in until I requested a new key, this I did and can access from the desktop straight to Yahoo.

My question is, how do I get the mail to open through Windows Live Mail?

This is the message I am receiving:-

Unable to send or receive messages for the Yahoo.co (*******) account. An incorrect password was entered. The next time you send or receive messages, you'll be asked to enter your username and password for this account.

Server Error: 0x800CCC90
Server Response: -ERR Server error - Please try again later. [SYS/TEMP]

Actually going straight to the Yahoo site does not allow me in as it is saying my password is incorrect and I need an Account Key, which they will send to my phone.

Just checking that the message (an email?) you received was a genuine email from Yahoo and not part of a phishing campaign angling for your login details...?

Windows Live Mail is counted as an insecure app by Yahoo, and you have to log into the Yahoo site directly and get it to generate an app specific password that you then enter in WLM, and it'll then work again.

You need a different key for each app, so the key that works on the Outlook app on your phone/tablet is not going to work on WLM on your desktop.

Of course that's not much use if you can't even log into Yahoo via a browser.
Try using your original password for the Yahoo site to log in.

Yahoo site won't let me log in as it says my password is invalid, I then click on "Forgot password" and it will send me an Account Key to my recovery email or text my recovery phone, when it does this and I use it I am then into my Yahoo acc on the desktop.

I cannot see where I can set up a password to my desktop, I have looked in settings and accounts, security.

The option should be in Account Security.
There are instructions here - https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN15241.html

I think you have to have turned on two step verification first.

Thing is I did not want to use a two step operation, however I will try it later.
I can sign in OK on my tablet and smart TV without problems, but desktop requires an Account Key to be sent.

    Thanks.
