Driving Lessons?

I want to take up some driving lessons and wondered does anybody have any recommendations?! I was thinking of doing the intensive course, does anybody have any experience of this? I have driven before and am in the North Belfast area.

Hi, I`m thinking of doing the same. There are so many driving schools that do these courses. I`m in 2 minds as I would be really gutted if I laid out all that cash then failed. I`ve just passed my theory test so part of the way there!!

Elite Driving Agency are great but don't do crash courses, just your regular one or two a week but highly recommended!

Yeah they do reduce your insurance. My son was thinking about doing advanced training after he passed his test but never got round to it but I would say that this would be beneficial in the long run - financial wise and safer.

I passed the IAM test over a year ago (im 22 yo male) and have not got any discount so far, (but insurance is due up next month) however, it will be of use for me in the coming years when I am 25+ according to my broker.

The way that I did mine was through the IAM's local groups. There is a North Down section that meets in Groomsport, and the Belfast one meets in Lisburn as far as I know. More info is here.

Intensive courses are not always suitable if you have little experience (can you concentrate for 6+ hours a day?!).

With regards to advanced courses - pass plus is a simple 6 hour course which may reduce insurance - especially for young males.

IAM is a proper advanced course - highly recommended, very cost effective especially if you are under 25. Many insurance companies do recognise IAM membership and give reductions accordingly.

My wife has lived in many countries (Europe, America, Asia etc) over the last 15 years due to work and has driven in these countries using an international driving license.

Since she joined me here almost a year ago, she has been drivining using her international driving permit which is due to expire next month. This means that she will need to get a Uk driving license in order to drive legally in this country.

She took the Theory test earlier this week and passed, now wants to do a few lessons (maybe 5 lessons) with a qualified instructor before she books her test.

Do you think 5 lessons is enough? Also can you recommend any driving school around the Lichfield/staffordshire area.

I reckon she knows all there is to know to pass the practical test.

Hiya I know its a minefield out there! so many schools to choose from! I see acclaim do intensive courses and might try them. Someone told me when you do this course other ppl will be sittin in the back seat of the car waiting for their turn/lesson?! dont fancy that would distract u too much! I have driven before but failed my test. Think its time to get my finger out now and get it passed!!
