It really depends what sort of things you like to eat. I love my store cupboard. I really like to cook everything from scratch including all our bread, so in mine, I have stores of flour, sugar, different types of canned beans, sweetcorn, baked beans, tomatoes, also loads of preserves I make myself mostly from stuff we grow, such as brown sauce, chutneys, jams, marmalade (also useful if you need to take a little gift to anyone as you can tart them up), if Christmas is approaching, as it is now, I'll have extra stores of things like dried fruits, & things that will be useful for the baking I'll be doing, I buy pasta when it's a good offer & rice & make sure I've got plenty of lentils, chickpeas & that kind of thing, & lots of tomato puree. I've always got a good stock of vinegars when they're on offer (because of the preserving I do). I shop around for the best deals, like most people on here, but I have to say that for occasional big store cupboard buys, I've found Lidl & Aldi to be very good. I bought loads of tinned red kidneys beans when Aldi had them on sale for 19p a tin & have used them in salads, chillies, curries, all sorts. Also butter beans at Lidl very good. It's really hard to be prescriptive without knowing what foods you like to eat, so overall, I would aim at having the sort of things in your store cupboard on which you could make meals for a while if you had to, as well as bargains which you have bought in bulk at a really good price.
Oh, and tinned tuna, salmon (which will make a very good emergency fish pie if it has to), & Aldi reduced fat mayonnaise (in case they decide it's no longer going to be only 79p)!2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever
2) To read 100 books (29/100)

I use mysupermarket to compare and also check out my local aldi and lidl stores and write down prices of things I would usually buy. I also see if there are any money off coupons for my products- see the coupon section on here. The best things to buy are your non perishables or long life stuff x0

I built our store cupboard up slowly over time so don't feel that you have to get it stocked straight away.
As well as buying things that I use which are on offer I often double up on things like rice/pasta/tinned toms/flour so that I have a good supply of them.
Currently I am looking into buying some of the staple things that I use in bulk for example we buy large sacks of onions as we go through them at quite a pace and they are much cheaper to buy in larger quantities. So I am going to see what other things might work out cheaper too.
Best thing to do is to write a list of the things that you eat and use for cooking and then take it from there. Everyone will have different cupboard essentials.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
New year new start as they say and as prices are soaring we are going back to basics and home cooking, no processed ready meals and junk food. No bought cakes and biscuits just stuff I bake. However I'm a bit stuck as to what to stock my store cupboard with and I'm looking for inspiration I have the very basics herbs, spices, flours etc what do you all keep in your store cupboards?0

Hi,
I wouldn't necessarily follow what others have got. You might end up spending a fortune on things you don't want. So since this forum is about money saving, have a think of the things that you would like to make.
Choose just a couple of items and ask for advice on here, if you need too. Then maybe get these ingredients, some you might already have anyway. Then take it from there.0 -
We have just moved into our new house and the poor cupboards are bare
What should I order??? We have a bit spare cash so we can stock up on essentials but all I can think of is tinned toms and baked beans
