TBH it's one thing to have a Mum who's happy to gift you another £20,000 from savings (with the hope of being re-paid), and OK they might be losing out on a bit of interest they could have earned on it.
It's quite another for them to take out a loan to gift the cash, and be paying interest!
How sure are you that your Mum is in such a strong financial position to do this?....Maybe she has hidden problems that you don't know about. It can work both ways you know.
It's amazing what lengths Grandparents will go for the GKids...even putting their own finances at risk to do so. I've seen it myself in our family. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
I'm not going to go into too much depth here, but her financial situation really really isn't precarious.Trying to figure out a whole new life. Trying to figure out a whole new budget.

I can see Sea Shell's point here. Even if her situation doesn't appear precarious (I use appear here because tbh we never truly know other's financial situations), if she is intending to take out a loan on your behalf, does she perhaps have a right to know the full details of your situation in order to make an informed decision? She might assess the risk differently if she had the full picture. Then again, she might not care about the risk and be just as happy to take out the loan - all I'm suggesting is that it would then be her choice to make, faced with all the facts in front of her regarding current debt, future funding of the extension through further credit and repayment possibilities.
Not suggesting you answer on here, maybe just food for thought but I'm sure you've been considering this already0 -
Oh my gosh. After a week of deafening silence I chased the franchise company yesterday morning. After another eight hours of anxious email refreshing, I got a really terse two line email saying I can GO! I am so so incredibly relieved. This is an absolute best case scenario, I am in complete shock.
There are some minor details to work out (returning of stock, finishing date to allow me to see current bookings etc), but the fact is I am finally free of this financial millstone. I almost cried when I got the email - I think the pressure of it and the way it has failed to perform as promised has been such a subconscious weight for so long that I didn't even realise it was there until it was gone. I even had a midweek drink to celebrate!
Not much else to update on today, just wanted to share that with you all.Trying to figure out a whole new life. Trying to figure out a whole new budget.
