Warby, reminds me of when the living room was painted.
Guy liberated my garden rain water bucket to use.
Fair play as soon as I pointed it out he arrived the next day with a brand new bucket- but being early summer it was full of rain water which I was saving for the garden

Week 60: Day 6
Morning everyone! Off to the zoo today to start our membership, with the money all ready and budgeted for.
Yesterday's outing wasn't too expensive, although ended up stopping in a garden centre for a juice and a snack on the way home as DC3 was utterly miserable - we think she might have a bit of a wheat intolerance, as she seems to get 24 hours of tummy upset, bloating and soreness after something like a pasta dish or day with lots of cake and bread, although the odd slice of sourdough doesn't seem to cause the same effect. Have been keeping a rough food diary but it's difficult to be certain as quite often the 'lots of wheat' days are also the 'lots of treat food' days, which can cause tummy troubles all by itself.
Need to get on and make some picnic food for today - the lunchbox supplies in the freezer are dwindling rapidly after a few days out!
To do today
1. Make some cake/biscuit/flapjacks for picnic.
2. Pack picnic for zoo.
3. Stop somewhere to get DCs' feet measured on the way home - suspect at least two of them need new shoes.
4. Do some cleaning, the house is getting a bit grim.
5. Email the architect to find out when we might see more drawings.
6. Pack up faulty shirt to return.

I used to use malt vinegar in the final rinse water on my hair - that was in the days when I used to get compliments from strangers. Great for brunettes, but if you go out in the rain you could smell slightly of fish and chips (don't ask me how I know). :rotfl:

Fab about the kettle and tea infusers! What a bargain! And noticing the overcharge at the cafe, that is mind-boggling when you think you were buying cake!Treadingonplaymobil wrote: »We think DC3 has a minor wheat intolerance, which is tedious. We have been keeping a rough food diary for a month or so now, and it does seem to be the thing that sets off a big bloated tummy and, ahem, toilet unpleasantness. Think we might try cutting it out for her and see whether it makes a difference.
Just a word of caution as I know someone who has self-diagnosed themselves and a child as gluten-intolerant (admittedly not necessarily the same as wheat intolerance) and excluded all gluten from their diets: it does seem to have helped their health BUT if the child ever has to be tested for coeliac disease, they will have to go back to eating gluten and go through the tests in order to get a correct diagnosis and treatment. I don't know all the details but it did sound as though going via a doctor or dietician may be adviseable.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

A trip to the docs might be an idea. My eldest developed tummy issues with lots of tears and trips to the toilet around mealtimes. We thought of all things other than the most common one, he was constipated! Turns out he didn't want to go at school which led to constipation with overflow.
Does she go at preschool? All of mine would never go at school. My daughter used to hate our camping holidays as she had to go in the campsite loos lol.
Keep the diary going and I agree with Cherryfudge, get her checked over if I was you. Enjoy the zoo.Total weight lost 6.5/73lbs starting yet again. Afds August 10/15. /8 Sept.0 -
I am coeliac and was concerned a few months ago about some tummy issues DS was having and whether gluten was becoming an issue for him. The doctor was very reluctant to test him because he’s 7 (it’s a blood test in the first instance) and it requires a specially trained phlebotomist who can take blood from a child. The couldn’t fit him in for weeks and his issues cleared up so we didn’t go ahead with the test.
Cherryfudge is right that you can get a false negative if gluten is already eliminated from the diet but as little as a slice of bread a day, I believe, is sufficient over 6 weeks to class as been reintroduced to the diet.
A doctors appointment sounds like a good idea. Poor little mite, can’t be very pleasant for her at all.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

Thanks for all the tummy/wheat advice. Part of the situation is that the symptoms just aren't that bad. She gets bloated and has a dodgy tummy, but rarely actually complains of proper tummy ache (maybe half a dozen times over a year when it's been as bad as it was on Friday, plus another dozen or so instances of mentioning that her tummy hurts then moving on and forgetting quite quickly). This has allowed us to put off really investigating the problem, as I think we've both been reluctant to admit there was a real issue, and I'm not sure it's bad enough to be properly diagnosable, if you know what I mean. I suppose one step is to eliminate all wheat and/or gluten for a month and see if things improve, then reintroduce it again and see if problems return. It definitely feels like a mild intolerance to whatever it is (we are deducing wheat/gluten, but obviously not certain), rather than a major allergy/immune response, but that doesn't make it any more enjoyable for her to be bloated and uncomfortable once or twice a week.Trying to figure out a whole new life. Trying to figure out a whole new budget.

If you are able to completely eliminate all gluten from her diet (as well as all risks of cross-contamination like breadboards, toasters, crumbs in spreads)then you may see an 'improvement' within 2 weeks. We did for dd once she was diagnosed - the difference in her energy and coping levels was amazing. Good luck!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0
