Medion Laptop from Sainsburys

I bought a Medion laptop from Sainsburys and after a very short time it started blue screening. There were also various other faults so I decided to take it back for and exchange.
Sainsburys told me that they could not refund or exchange without a code from Medion and gave me the 0870 number of their customer care line.
After 15minutes on hold i was told that because 28 days had passed Medion would not give me a code and they would only fix the problem. As there had in my opinion been too many problems for a new laptop I decided that repair was not the answer.
I had to then contact Sainsburys again and request the refund which was a nightmare as the they had to get permission from the buyers(?) for the refund.
Finally after hounding Sainsburys for a week i got my refund.
Beware, apparently our consumer rights go out the window when buying Electronic products from Sainsburys.

I'd have thought that regardless of what product you buy from a retailer, they're obliged to sell you something of acceptable quality. Given that the laptop wasn't of acceptable quality, i don't see why you've got less rights than buying from, say, PC World or Currys.
Personally, if i had been told to phone Medion for a number on an 0870 line i'd have simply referred Sainsburys to the Sale of Goods act and reminded them that my contract was with them and not Medion. They would be obliged to change/repair/fix the laptop
