Should be pointed out that many CVEs affect OSX, due to the fact it is a port of 4.4 BSD unix and Apple bundle a lot of open source software into the OSX distribution.

Your final sentence applies equally to Windows - if one exercises care and takes a few precautions, an antivirus is not required. However, for the majority of users, one is certainly advisable, to protect them from themselves and from clicking on things that appear legitimate.

If nothing else you should have one to ensure that you catch any Windows virus or malware in any files, documents or emails you may be sharing so that you don't pass them on to other people not using a Mac.

Seems a bit bogus to me : if there are people running Windows without any virus protection, what are the chances that sharing docs with mac users is the only vector by which they might receive malware ?
