Trojans do exist, however if the user exercises caution and doesn't go installing stuff from dodgy sites, then there is little to no need for an antivirus.
Your final sentence applies equally to Windows - if one exercises care and takes a few precautions, an antivirus is not required. However, for the majority of users, one is certainly advisable, to protect them from themselves and from clicking on things that appear legitimate.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
However, anyone who tells you that a Mac doesn't need AV doesn't really know what they are talking about.
If nothing else you should have one to ensure that you catch any Windows virus or malware in any files, documents or emails you may be sharing so that you don't pass them on to other people not using a Mac.
Seems a bit bogus to me : if there are people running Windows without any virus protection, what are the chances that sharing docs with mac users is the only vector by which they might receive malware ?0
