This may seem like a basic question, but what is the correct way to brush your teeth?
Any links to a video would be useful, as there seem to be so many different people giving different advice.0 -
I wouldn't say there was 'a correct way'.
If I have a patient who has a clean mouth, I wouldn't want to change anything, nomatter how they were achieving it.
If we have someone who isn't very good, we look at how they are doing it, any dexterity problems they may have, how long they are doing it for and then try and modify what they are doing so it's more effective.
The general problems are.
1. Not spending enough time.
2. Not using interdental cleaning aids
3. Doing it on 'autopilot' - So the same places get cleaned every time, but the same places get missed. So encouraging people to 'think' whilst they're doing it and make sure the effort is evenly spread.
4. Brushing in the wrong place. The bit where tooth meets gum is where all the crud collects - so brushing this junction well rather than the more self-cleaning top of the tooth.
So there isn't really a one-size-fits-all 'way' to brush the teeth, which is why there are so many, admittedly rather confusing, different methods out there.
The key thing though, is take your time and think about it. Another useful thing - LOOK at your teeth. It's really surprising how much missed crud is actually easily visible!! Pull your lips away, look in the mirror and ask 'Do these LOOK clean?' If not - brush them again, concentrating on the bits that LOOK cruddy. For advanced toothbrushers - occasional use of disclosing tablets can stain missed plaque. So brush your teeth, chew a disclosing tablet, and look at the bits you've missed! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

Is Dr Robert O. Nara (USA) still alive?
He recommends using a water pik (oral irrigator).
Is he the greatest dentist ever?0 -
Hi There, I have dental implants so have to pay very close attention to my oral hygiene. I have been using this for 2 years now with GREAT results, also the price is great! You can either use it as a spray toothbrush or just the irrigator. I have found it fits on most taps both here and abroad, ( I take mine with me). Hope that helps.
