Buying from a garage

Hi guys,
Looking at a few second hand garages but I'm out of touch; the last time I'm bought the car in question had 12 months MOT and tax on it - from the forecourt I rang my insurance, got it insured and drove it away... It appears times have changed
What's the deal now because a few of the cars I'm interested in are 300+ mile round trips away.
Is it still possible to buy on the day and drive it away?
Thanks.

It should be possible to do the VED and arrange the insurance beforehand. I was able to do with my Merc purchase.0 -

As long as the dealer is in possession of the correct documentation and gives it to you, then you can tax online or over the phone 24/7.0 -
Okay, cool. Yep, all the garages are up together (appear so anyway!) so I shouldn't have any issues...
Thanks both!0 -
Insure before driving away.
Tax online with green slip before driving away.
Check for valid mot
Done.
Although a lot of people just tax when they get home, your risk though0 -
See the car like the car arrange to buy, but phone the insurance FIRST to see how much they want. Then purchase insurance and pay for the car and tax online.
Drive home.
Hope it doesnt need any remedial work because you may need to take it 300 miles back to them?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I would suggest speaking to the dealer first. Personally I don't put the Mot on until the car is sold.0

Doesn't seem like a good idea buying from a garage thats 150 miles away because if you have a problem in the warranty period it is going to cost you a lot to trailer it over there.0
