How is it running?
Better or worse than the system the SNP commissioned for farm payments?
or
Police Scotland and it's VAT payments? SNP ministers were repeatedly warned that merging the previous eight regional forces would make the new national body liable for the levy but went ahead anyway.
And now they want to run a tax system :eek:0 -

Interesting stuff shakey.
Seeing that the SNP has ruled out housing trident under iScotland means we can discount all Hamish's guff about using it to negotiate about fifteen different concessions.0 -

The other Scottish thread is

But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

The SNP might not be in charge for long after independence. Time will tell. Any move is likely to take years though, even if a suitable port could be found. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

I'm not so sure TBH.
I've learnt from many other posters that Scottish labour and lib Dems are finished, plus the referendum is going to fought and won on a ticket of hating the tories.
So I guess that leaves the greens and I'm not sure that they'll be too accommodating to a nuclear base.0 -

I'm hoping there will be new parties, and I think the SNP will probably split post independence.
I think you've misunderstood if you think the referendum will be about 'hating the tories' - it will be a little more nuanced than that!0 -

I've misunderstood nothing.Shakethedisease wrote: »The wider question however won't be on the EU. The last referendum was independence v's the union. The next one will be more along the lines of independence v's the Tories. The message going out from the SNP at the present time is 'the Tories think they can do anything they like with Scotland and get away with it'. Now you might not agree with that of course, but that's the message that's being repeated and sent out right now and it's one that's likely only to get much louder.0 -
That isn't about hating tories per se, it is about having a parliament which represents our votes.0

It's a political message that will resonate extremely well with 2014 Labour No voters. Not least because the Labour party have been using exactly the same message themselves for decades, and not just in Scotland. A democratic deficit is one which brought Holyrood and the other devolved parliaments into being in the first place.
However this thread is about finances and economic deficits, so will leave this there. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
