Thanks Wingo. They have only seen DH on FaceTime since their last visit so yes they were excited. I've made it down there on the train a couple of times.
It'll be all go when they meet up with DD1s son aged five.0 -

Hope everyone is ok and the storm isn't too bad for you.
Birds chirping away here and everything seems fine. Was expecting it to still be raining but dry at the moment. Bit worried about DS2 as it looks really bad in his area. Expect it is bad for you too rose.
Have a lucky day.

Hello, what a lovely friendly chatty thread. I don't do many comps these days but it used to be my main hobby, for some 30 years from the mid 70s. I was a slogan writer, and not too bad at it either.
I won £1000 twice at times when that money could make a big difference, won a top of the range washing machine, a bike, a video cam and hundreds of small prizes.
These days I don't enter much but still have the odd win. Last year I had a lovely surprise. I took an online survey, was screened out, put in my email address for a prize draw and did indeed win, a £50 Tesco gift card.
I'm mostly an Aldi girl, so I only finished using the Tesco card this week - on stuff I can't get at Aldi.
Does anyone remember reading about Rita Smallburn, the Queen of the Slogan Comps, who was often on TV years ago? She lived locally to me in County Durham and I knew her. A lovely lady.
Rita sadly died relatively young of cancer - it must be almost 20 years ago.
At least 15 years, as I walked over to her house rather than cycle there on my trike, which was an October 2002 competition win. Memories of a nice lady and her very pleasant husband, Ray.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Thanks FF - DS2 hasn't gone to work today. Don't suppose they would have been busy anyway. Hope weather improves for you.
Hello mcculloch, nice to meet you. I tried slogans many years ago but wasn't very good at them. Sounds like you had some lovely wins.
I'm afraid I haven't heard of Rita Smallburn.Mar Wins :- £2 GfK Media

Thanks Sheils!
Just a quick add, what I do do - and it's far easier than writing clever slogans!! - is to write reviews of items for Amazon.
I'm one of their "Vine Voice" Trusted Reviewers, and virtually every day I accept a direct offer from them of an item to review, which is sent to me free in the post/ by delivery driver.
Most are small, useful things, - make up, books, iPhone accessories - , but not all are small.
Just taking a look around my lounge and dining room / kitchen , my steam generator iron, You View box, wi-fi booster, digital radios (x2), Hoover, electric mop, handbag, backpack, ordinary iron, food processor, coffee machine, cafetiere, kettle, toaster and coffee beans / tea capsules were all sent by Amazon.
Not to mention 95% of my toiletries and half of my bookshelves. Particularly cookbooks.
Vine Voice is by invitation only, but if you write quality reviews of items you buy on Amazon, you may well catch their eye, as I did, 9 years ago.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again...
