Effect on Credit Rating of adding another cardholder

Options
I'm thinking of adding another cardholder to my halifax reward credit card account.

Will this affect my Credit Rating in anyway ?

No, an additional cardholder won't affect your credit rating, or indeed theirs.

However this I only an additional card and you would be fully responsible for payment of their spend.
  • Halifax will not be aware of something you are thinking about so it will have no impact on anything.

If you were to add an additional cardholder, credit rating is meaningless, but your credit history could be affected. You would be solely responsible for managing the account so if the secondary cardholder spent more than you can afford to repay, it's your history that would reflect this.
  • Thanks for the info.

It's my Dad I'm adding. So no problems being responsible for his spends on his card.

Not sure you understand but you can't have a joint credit card, and even if you did the liability would be joint and several.

Why are you adding him, as this would be just an additional card, you would be liable, for his spending as the account holder, can't he get his own account?
  • Is it common to do another hard search on the original cardholder to add a supplementary card?
  • i could have phrased it better.

I know I'll be liable for spending on his (the additional) card on my account.

As for why not apply for his own. He could, but he has enough credit cards.

We don't need it for credit, we pay our bills off every month, it just stops him being stung for foreign currency transaction fees that his current cards charge.

Maybe he needs to close some cards and get himself a card for foreign transactions.
