New Laptop and Win 10

My Sister bought a new Toshiba satellite C55 preloaded with Win 10 which slows down this machine. Being her goto when techy things go wrong I took a look and it is indeed slower than her old 9 year old Dell using Vista can you believe. After removing a load of bloat ware and installing a lighter AV it is still slow. Toshiba don't answer emails their forums offer no remedy and Curry's the retailer can't seem to understand a simple email criticizing this machine which they advised hero to buy with a request to change to a different brand albeit it is 6 months on. Whatever happened to the helpful and understanding customer service? Answer "we've got your money, haha.

What bit in particular is slow, that may help us suggest something? The largest factors for speed are the hard drive and amount/type of memory usually.
Does it take ages to boot, for example, this would suggest it's the hard drive. Is it a mechanical hard drive or solid state drive? If the former, then putting in a SSD makes a vast difference.
If you could let us know the system specification then we can suggest something."Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect." - Mark Twain0 -
AS already said, slower doing what?
How can you tell Windows 10 is slowing down a machine that came with that OS?
I don't madly like WIn 10, but I updated from Win 7 on my 7 year old Dell laptop, and I think it's a bit faster if anything.
There are an awful lot of variables though.0 -
Depends which CPU the Toshiba has. Some of the CPUS used entry level sub £300 laptops from all manufacturers are anaemic, gutless and in fact a Core 2 Duo E8400 from 9 years ago will slightly beat or outright slaughter the Celeron N2830 in the entry level Tosh C55.

Its why you'd do better buying a used Core 2 Duo or early gen Core i3/5 Dell Latitude/Precision or Thinkpad T4xx, shoving a SSD in it and benefitting from the better build quality of laptops that were north of £1000 when new than you'd get over a new budget entry level laptop today. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. which Toshiba satellite C55 model is it exactly?
PCworld don't sell Toshiba's any more as they've stopped making them. Suspect They may have been off loading remaining stock when they recommended it.
It's not the fault of W10, whatever is wrong with it.

hi,
It seems that all of this C55 functions are slow, boot time is about 3mins, program initialization is sluggish, page loading is slow, yes I am also aware that an SSD will speed it up but why should I have to do this. Linux Mint yes I use that myself, but the point I'm making is that this machine has been loaded with a heavy new O/S which it really doesn't like. Good answer Tarambor."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0 -

You still haven't given the model number C55 is just the series number AFAIK
You could try doing a fresh clean install of the OS.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Windows 10 is lighter than Windows 7, consumes fewer resources and boots faster. If it was on Windows 7 you'd be still waiting 5 minutes later instead of 3. A SSD will take it down to 20 seconds or so.
They're built down to a price so come with a slow CPU, slow motherboard chipset, slow RAM and a slow HDD so it takes an age to load files and do anything with them. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
