New collective deal for Scottish customer

Oh good. No too late again MSE. I'm with SP. They offered me a deal last October I lapped up. I'm fixed til December 18 thank you.

If you live on the border of one of the four regions where our collective energy switch tariff will be available (North Scotland, South Scotland, South Wales and Merseyside & North Wales), or if you're just not sure if you can get it, you can check your meter or bill for your meter point administration number (MPAN). If this starts with a 13, 17, 18 or 21, you'll be eligible to get our collective tariffs.


One of the specific areas is the MANWEB area - Scottish Power bought Manweb and own the infrastructure and charge us in the area way over the odds per kw to pay for all the cable laying in North Wales and is distributor for most Scottish customers.

ScottishPower is the distribution network operator for central and southern Scotland, Merseyside and North Wales.

The EDF tariff is the cheapest fix in the collective regions based on average usage once we include the £30 cashback (apart from Iresa which we feel is something of an outlier).

However it can be beaten based on your usage - the main message is to switch, whether that be to a collective or elsewhere and avoid being moved onto your supplier's standard tariff which for most will be pricey.

Dan. How can Iresa be a MSE Top Pick a month or so ago and now it is an outlier, That rather suggests that MSE knows something about this particular supplier that customers and potential customers do not. Would you care to elaborate? That said, I accept that Iresa would appear to be growing its customer base at an extraordinary rate which, in itself, gives me some concern as an Iresa customer.

I'm tempted by Iresa due to cheap price and no exit fees, but why is it so much cheaper than every other tariff?

It may be a regional thing, as well as usage level, but for me Scottish Power Online Fixed Price Energy June 2018 v2 is still coming up cheaper than Iresa

But that maybe due to our lower than average usage. The SP tariff offers low daily standing charge, countered by higher unit charges. They also have discounts for online and dual fuel.
Iresa daily standing charges are much higher, but are countered by lower unit prices, so will tend to favour higher consumers. (Higher consumers generally drive higher profits, assuming they have their pricing correct).

Having said that, for gas, Economy Energy have just come up with a stonking good deal for gas (Direct saver 2017 (v3)) - that has an average daily standing charge but about 2.5p per kWh (which is good compared to many others, including the likes of Zog).
This now beats SP for gas (for us) even when allowing for a dual fuel discount.
(SP were beating Zog for us after allowing for dual fuel discount)

Edit: Green Network Energy-The Italian Touch GNE Fix comes in at about the same price as Iresa for dual fuel for us (but see my warnings elsewhere about Green Network Energy - but these prices are coming from a comparison site rather than their own website, so may be more accurate)

Edit 2: And Tonik - Positive Energy v2 is coming up for dual fuel less than £10 a year more expensive than Iresa for us.
