Fixed Tarrifs and Moving House

I'm just coming to the end of a fixed price duel fuel energy deal so I'm shopping round for a new tariff.

I have my house up for sale at the moment, so if I go for a fixed price deal again, I would like one where the fixed rate can be transferred across to the new property that I buy - which will hopefully be within the length of the fix!!

From what I have found so far, most providers don't charge exit fees if you are moving, but many seem to suggest that you will have to start a new deal if you want to transfer the energy supply for the new property over to them - at whatever is their best rate at the time. This seems to defeat the idea of fixing.

Can anyone recommend a provider that allows porting of a fixed deal - unfortunately I havn't found a comparison site that allows me to filter by this requirement.

You cannot transfer your account from one property to another.

Take the best deal you can with the present property- when you leave give them final readings.

On the day you move into your new property ring the existing supplier.

Then do a new swop.

Thanks Robin but I'm a little confused.

On the Cheap Energy Club site is says this.....

Sainsbury's Energy is operated by British Gas, so if you're a British Gas customer and want to save without switching supplier, this tariff is a good option. It's fixed until 28 February 2018, taking you through the rest of this winter and most of next without the risk of price hikes. While pricey compared to the cheapest tariffs available on the market, you'll get sent a £100 Sainsbury's gift card 28 days after it switches you. Factoring in the voucher, the deal can cost around the same as the some of the cheapest tariffs from other big name suppliers - though check your savings above

There are exit fees with this tariff - £40 for dual fuel, £20 single fuel - but if you move home during the fixed period you can take this deal with you to your new property.

Just wondering if any other companies do a similar thing?

You cannot actually take your tariff to a new property as the property will already have a Deemed Supplier. What this supplier is offering is a new contract which is on your present tariff terms; that said, you still have to go through a switching process; i.e., inform the Deemed Supplier with meter readings etc and contact Sainsbury's and ask them to initiate a switch to them.

AFAIK, First Utility used to offer a similar deal. That said, before agreeing that it is a great deal for anyone moving, I would want to do a few basic checks first. For example, my usage in a new property is likely to be different and my postcode(region) could affect standing charges and prices. In sum, what might appear to be a good deal might not be.
