Seems SO dodgy to me, at freshers all they give you is the code "fresh", there's no further information on charges for this text, and the people handing out leaflets answered no questions. I wouldn't be surprised if you join a premium rate text service or something.
I tested their "emergency helpline number" for lost sims and surprise surprise, it doesn't exist!
As for the article, it's on a paid for "press release" website, so for all we know, it's been written by he people at blyke themselves.0 -

A new British mobile service called Blyk will offer subscribers some free calls and text messages in return for their agreeing to accept advertising on their phones.0 -

What's the point in encouraging people to text 'today' if these codes aren't even available?
Apparently it started on the 24th, yet I haven't seen any invite codes floating around on the internet ... or heard of any people who've actually joined.0 -

I just don't see the ex Nokia President and others risking their rep by doing a runner with a few quid made on your texts. So I think we can safely say it "exists" and whether it will last is unknown but after watching their launch presentation I personally think it will do well, its not for me but I think for a lot of their target market it will work.0 -
