Claiming repair costs off own insurance

Hi there, I have been involved in a recent accident and third party have denied liability, I wasn't going to claim off my own insurance but I've decided to now. The assessor has already valued my repair claim.

Can I tell my insurer that I want to use my own repairer bodyshop pay them for the repair and claim back the repair costs from insurer? Repair cost is lower than assesor cost.

You always have the right to have repairs carried out at your choice of repairer

You may have to be assertive with your insurer (and check your compulsory excesses as some insurers do charge a compulsory excess for using your own choice)

You might need to get two quotes and the insurer will pay the lower plus any charge for not using their 'recommended' repair outfit.
  • Well I just called them up no extra cost for using my own preferred choice but you don't get the usual parts guarantee/courstey car etc but I don't care anyway..

No one could give me answer to when I asked them but I was wondering if they would pay me upfront for the repair costs if I used my local bodyshop repairer, can you see that being a problem ?
  • P.s already have the assessor report and I spoke to the garage they said they can do it for a couple hundred cheaper in total including labour and vat.

You won't get them to pay you upfront.

You won't have to pay yourself.

All you will have to pay is your excess (which you normally pay direct to the repairer when you collect your repaired car)
