    The text of the OP alludes to something like this might be happening. It's not always sneaky sellers/evil buyers and thieving agents...

    They weren't in their contractual period, they simply failed to keep to the terms of the offer, which was to cease marketing/viewings.

    Just comes down to wanting the highest price possible and having no qualms about misleading us about this fact. Had they been upfront we'd have not bothered with them in the first place.
