Currys PC World seem to be acting like a back-street retailer here, not like a large company with customer commitment.

They should have simply replaced this camera this morning.

Instead, they have now inconvenienced me significantly.

This company should work within both the word and spirit of the law. In this case, they are acting like a shyster firm. Perhaps this is a warning to people considering buying goods from Currys PC World.

So despite the legislation saying that I have the right to a replacement or repair of my choosing, the retailer simply has to say it is cheaper for them to send it for repair and they get away with not having to replace?

I would suggest that Currys PC World would simply return the faulty camera to Canon for a credit and replace my camera from stock.

I believe this would be very cost-effective all round.
Does it say that though? It may be worth actually reading up on what the CRA actually states and what it doesn't.

If you were there taking the official pictures then I suppose you could argue it would a significant inconvenience, however it could also be argued that this isn't exactly a "consumer" issue.

However, if you were just planning on taking your camera to takes pics as any other guest would then the inconvenience would not likely be classed as significant, particularly as you'll probably have an alternative method for capturing the day.

I don't care. It is inconvenient to me, that's why I bought a half decent camera from what I thought was a reputable company. Currys PC World show that they have poor customer commitment. I have been considerably inconvenienced.

What made you think Currys were a reputable company? :rotfl:

Currys PC World are not the place to buy if you want customer service, and that has been the case for a very long time. In fact they should be right at the bottom of any list.

But - as stated above, you may want to check exactly what your rights are before condemning them completely.

They really are a joke. This could have been sorted out in 10 minutes. I'm now going down the route of trading standards. I WILL get a replacement. I will not accept a repair.

    I'll keep this forum updated.

That is a point of view and, like you, I am no great fan of Currys PC World.

However before beating your chest and demanding your "rights" it would be as well to fully understand what they actually are!

The majority of large retailers in this country generally do more than the bare minimum the law requires. That sometimes leads to misunderstanding and a false sense of entitlement.

The bottom line here is that Currys PC World are within their rights to repair rather than replace in this instance so no, you do not have the "law on my side".

TBH, I'd imagine most retailers will behave in exactly the same way in this instance, an that includes the likes of John Lewis etc.

Yes, they are a joke, but in this case you are being unreasonable.

Trading Standards do not deal with individual complaints. You can contact the CAB consumer advice line but they'll not do much except point you to some letter templates.
