Moving into a property and energy debt
My young colleague has recently obtained the keys for a council property. He hasn't been able to move in as the gas is not sorted.
It seems that the previous tenant left debt on the meter and understandably he shouldn't be responsible for this debt. He has set up his own account and has contacted the energy company (Npower) several times who have given him a code (which hasn't worked) and told him to collect a card and put £1 on it and this should clear the debt. This hasn't worked and he's is so frustrated.
He needs Npower to clear the debt/meter and ensure that money he has paid is credited to him. He is unable to pay anymore for gas as he has rented to pay.
Trying to sort this with Npower is getting him nowhere. What can we do or what should be done to clear the debt and ensure that the money he has paid is credited to his account?

Hi TLM1974
Thanks for your post.
I'm sorry the code we've given the customer hasn't worked - this code resets the prepayment meter and wipes the debt off it.
If the code hasn't worked we may need to get an engineer out to manually reset the meter. Please ask your colleague to call our Prepayment team with his account details and explain that the RTI codes haven't worked, neither has the card. They should be able to sort out a resolution with them.
Kind regards
