Hello Elliedee, your friend is in her 70s and 'rather old-fashioned' - what exactly does that mean?

I'm 72 and pretty modern. I've never heard of the song of which the lyrics are given above.

    Margaret

Before I found wisdom, I became old.

Sorry Margaret I didn't mean that she is old fashioned BECAUSE she is in her seventies. I know people older than she is who are more 'with it ' and like modern music. She is just more traditional than some I guess. In any case I hadn't heard of Max's suggestion either and I am, ahem, in my fifties.

Enter 'When the moon is shining bright' and it throws up a couple of suggestions, one by Margaret-Ann and another by The Monkees, might be worth a look at.

Could it be The Blue Moon of Kentucky? Similar lyrics and possibly the right era....I'll try and find a link.

Here it is - this site has the lyrics and it plays the tune too....lol!

Well, it was on one moonlight night,
    Stars shining bright,

I bet that is the one - this line is in the song so you probably got it there. LOL, I'll name that tune in 360!!

No, I'm 100% sure it's the one I remember, they used to play it on the Billy Cotton Bandshow in the 50s - it was like a sand-dance.

OR Wilson Kepple and Betty used to dance to 'The Bazaar in Old Cairo' :

When the moon shines bright take the first door on the right
Give the sing-sing sign as you go
There'll be silk and lace in the market place
In the Old Bazaar in Cairo.

Harum Scarum what d'you think of that
Dirty strip-tease dancing on the mat
Oompah oompah that's enough of that
In the Old Bazaar in Cairo.
