Wired mouse with PgUp and PgDn buttons?

Our Windows 10 build at work is very tightly tied down, and I cannot load any mouse drivers or mouse control panel software.

My mouse at home is a Logitech M570, and I really like having two small buttons that I have configured as PgUp and PgDn. However, I can't use it at work (I don't have permission to load either the drivers for the wireless receiver or the Logitech SetPoint software which maps the buttons).

I have seen some wired mice for sale with additional buttons, but these buttons seem to be configured as Forward and Back and not as PgUp and PgDn.

Does anybody know of a USB wired mouse with PgUp and PgDn buttons which work out of the box, and doesn't require any drivers or software to be loaded?
Philip

I can't believe anyone would lock down the system to that degree, but I guess it takes all sorts.
Best look for a 'Gaming' Mouse. Some have page up/down buttons, others are programmable, can be programmed at home then taken to work. However most have a button that changes the scroll wheel to free spin, which moves pages up/down with ease.

Last place I worked, my manager had the IT guy physically remove the CTRL and ALT keys from my keyboard to stop me using keyboard shortcuts (copy, cut, paste and shortcut keys for MS Access).
Apparently I was the only person in the office who didn't do it "properly" by left clicking and selecting copy/paste, as such I was "misusing the computer" and it was giving me an "unfair advantage" and making me "too productive".

It was all arrogance before common sense, as they realised when I couldn't log on the next morning.

  • X-Mouse Button Control may help, but if your system is that locked down then it won't:o

    Did that really happen ??!!

Why is it an unfair advantage ? Did the other guys not have the said keys on their computers ??

He must have been a right fcuktard !!

The the OP, simply ask IT to install the drivers for the mouse for you.
They have absolutely no reason not to.

If they refuse, go to occ health and say you are getting RSI in your wrist and you need such a mouse

Because I sometimes have to read 100+ page documents, so using the scroll wheel is tedious and using the keyboard buttons means taking my hands off the mouse.

It's a bit like volume controls on your steering wheel, or a TV remote control - you don't have to use them, but they are more convenient.

Thanks - that's a useful suggestion. I'll see if I can find one (preferably without too many flashing lights!) that can be programmed on my home PC first.

Large organisation. Standardised builds for security and reduced cost to support. They're not going to let me load my own mouse drivers just because I'd like a mouse with PgUp/PgDn buttons. And no, they won't give me local admin rights (yes, I did ask!)

Yes, for the final few hours of one day only, as I couldn't of course use alt+ctrl+del to log into my machine the next morning.

Basically I was doing too much work and he wanted to make it look like I was cheating the system...... Not allowed to look better than your manager.

Of course everyone knew it was idiotic, but they were all gutless wonders who wouldn't say anything for fear of reprisals.

This is sound advice, bringing this up is sure to get something done.

Im the IT manager for a very large organisation and im telling you if you go to HR and tell them you want to see occ health because your current working situation is leading you to get RSI then you will have your mouse installed the next morning !!
Its even more likely to happen as you already have your own mouse so no cost to the company
    Good luck

But I don't have RSI (and never suggested that I had).

I'm certainly not going to either lie to my employer or falsify my medical records - are you seriously suggesting that I should risk a disciplinary or dismissal just to indulge a mild preference for a different mouse? I've seen some poor advice offered on MSE over the years, but this must rank among the very worst!

You haven't seen anything yet, but you could trawl through all posts on here and maybe miss them. However, perhaps you could ask your in house IT Department if they could help you out, I used to be one of them and our guys would always help if it was in their power. Don't try to justify yourself on here , just sort the wheat from the chaff, I would think that most in house IT would , mind you it's been 12 years
