What a fab idea we are going there on our honeymoon in August. We love the other greek islands but have never been to Cyprus. Can anyone rec. restaurants etc as well budget and lavish (ish!) ones. Also have heard well worth visiting Egypt and the pyramids but not sure of best way to do it?
Can anyone advise?
Thanks0 -
If you are in the market for spectacles, Cyprus is the place to buy them. They work out at half what you would pay in the UK. You will be given a proper eye test by opticians who seem mainly to have been trained in the UK. Three years ago I had a pair of reading specs, a pair of driving specs and the thorough eye-test for less than a hundred pounds. They even gave me a copy of the eye-test prescription to take away with me. If you don't want specs they also sell a good selection of designer shades. In Paphos you will find several opticians on the main shopping street. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

My brother had his wedding reception at http://www.7stgeorgestavern.com a few years ago.
We have been back several times and always enjoyed it. You must book in advance, especially if going on the weekend.
It's not in the tourist area of Paphos and the menu is Meze - no choice, just meze
If you like large portions, you should try Fat Mama's on the Tomb of the Kings Road. The starters were like main courses and the main courses were even bigger. Starve yourself before going.
Our favourite Chinese/Thai Restaurant was on the same road but on the opposite side. It's called the Phukhet.
There is a good article here about it http://www.cyprus-mail.com/news/main.php?id=16425&cat_id=5
Hope this helps

For archeological sites, try Kourion near Limassol. Fantastic ruins including amphitheatre and mosaics overlooking the sea. Entrance fee is cheap. Just along the road is another archaelogical site too. Car hire is cheap - and this trip is nearly all motorway, less than an hour away. And you drive on the left. There are a couple of car hire recommendations in these chat forums.
If you turn off the motorway onto the coast road you can visit Aphrodite's Rock.
Also consider hiring a 4WD and going up into the Troodos mountains. They are spectacular. There isn't much to Troodos village, except (very nice) roasted nuts stalls. But there are various other quaint villages an monasteries.
General ideas about driving. They drive on the left. Petrol is much cheaper than UK. The few motorways are excellent and EU money is being used to improve other roads. If you drive intot he mountains it takes longer than you would expect and sometimes a 4WD is necessary as the good roads have a habit of disappearing.
If you don't want to drive, check for coach trips. You can get them much cheaper if you shop around compared with the deals being offered in the hotels. We didn't get to Nicosia, but it's recommended for its history. I estimate its about 3 hours drive, but again there are coach tours or scheduled services from Paphos.0 -
When we visited the Troodos mountains in late March, a couple of years ago, there was still quite a lot of snow lying around.
I agree about the coach trips. We booked one with a local company in Paphos. It was about half the price of the one offered by the tour rep , we had a 20 seater mini-coach , so everyone got to know each other on the trip very soon. The only draw-back was that the first port of call was a winery. Wine tasting before 10 in the morning does tend to make you sleepy the rest of the day. Even though we had hired a car for the week , we still chose to go on one coach trip , do that we could see the island with a guide who knew their stuff. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0
