Admin fees

So recently I auto renewed my car insurance but it was only after they'd renewed that I realised some of the details on my policy had errors. I went and called them to correct the mistake and they've charged me £19.50 for admin fees. The errors were things like, type of licence and names which were all correct in my previous policy before renewal.
I'm a bit annoyed at the fact that had they not made those errors in the first place, I wouldn't have had to change my details and therefore wouldn't need to pay the admin fee.

Has anyone else had experience with this and do people think I'm entitled to a refund of the admin fee as it wasn't my mistake to begin with?

If these errors were all made by the insurer as you say then of course you shouldn't have been charged any admin fees. In fact they should be reimbursing you for the time and trouble they put you to correcting their errors.

So make a formal complaint about this, ask them to refund the fee and compensate you for the trouble they have put you to.

Then if you are unhappy with their reply or they ignore the complaint for 8 weeks you can escalate to the FOS for their adjudication at no cost to you

So this appears odd in that normally your details are not "retyped" whether you apply online or as you infer your insurer renews for you.

Clearly if something has changed or your didn't have the correct details originally, then that would replicate or need updating. But, if you are saying the insurer made the error somehow it is unreasonable to ask you to pay to correct their mistake.

I suggest you call them, explain and ask for a refund of the £19.50 or ask to / submit a formal complaint as per the process detailed in your policy documents.

At worst, they can try to explain their thinking. Maybe their system automatically charges the fee if anything is edited which is clearly not right it is their fault.
I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!
I do however reserve the right to be correct by accident.
