Ignored initial PCN - Now What?

Hello there,

So my girlfriend parked her car in the local Aldi car park late last year, went around a few of the shops and ended up getting a PCN (Parking Charge notice) from UKPC for leaving the complex (she still has her receipt from Aldi to prove otherwise).

Having read several threads on here (mostly as it would now seem, from the 2012 era), we decided to ignore it. They obviously paid for her details from the DVLA and we starting receiving letters. We've continued to ignore them and have now passed the appeal date, the total now due is £140 and we've had a letter today from the debt collector - DRPL (I'm guessing an alias of UKPC). Whilst not too intimidated by the letter; having read some of the more recent threads (mainly those from @Coupon-mad) it looks like we should've dealt with it from the start and they may try and take us to court!

I guess I have three options now; continue to ignore, appeal, or go straight to Aldi with a complaint - I get that we're not in a particularly good position either way as we've ignored them so far. Any advice or resources would be most helpful. Thanks

you can carry on IGNORING (and should do)

you cannot appeal, its too late for that

yes you should complain to the retailer (like you should have done at the time) and insist on a cancellation

dont read old news , only read stuff ftom the last 12 months , so nothing from 2015 or older

and the NEWBIES thread does tell people what to do , including IGNORING letters from DRP

DRPL is not an alias of UKPC

its a DCA and has various sub-companies , including ZENITH and PCS

so its a debt collector , not a parking company , as different as chalk and cheese !

UKPC are scammers who were caught doctoring time stamps on their photo' "evidence."

They won't have any proof that the driver left the site. If they did then they will have shot themselves in the foot because they will have proved they failed to mitigate their loss.

Do as Redx has said and complain long and loud to Aldi management or CEO (not customer services.)

  • Thanks guys - any tips on the complaint letter (around the issue of not appealing to UKPC)? Anyone know of any templates?

Not doing your appeal is spilt milk now. Forget about any appeals

But complaining to Aldi is a different matter! You don't need a template to show you how to write them a complaint about this (no-one left the site, proof of shopping at the store at the time stated, good customer, etc etc)

there should be examples of complaints in the sticky threads , its not reading through the sticky threads and the links given that causes basic questions like this

and how hard can it be to write a letter of complaint to a retailer ?

I am sure there are hundreds of such letters with a simple google search !!

Aldi don't use UKPC so they must have been contracted by the managing agent for the entire site. You can Google to find who runs the place, then just email them (no template needed, anyone can complain about this harassment). No need to email Aldi, they will tell you they do not run this car park.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
