A smart meter is a meter - nothing more. Check that you are on the right tariff and do your own cost calculation based on the tariff that you are on, and your actual usage. It has been a bit colder this Winter: I most certainly have been using more gas than last year. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Do you have the new smart prepayment meters? How are you crediting the meter. The old meters used key and a card for top ups at paypoints
whatever type of prepay meter you have you can see all the details of the tariff (pence per kwh ) standing charges, (BG is £1.82 a week ) and any debt and the weekly repay amount all can be seen on the meters. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Every post I read on here reinforces my decision to never, ever, ever get a smart meter. In addition to all the other stuff I have heard on the telly about them.
There is no reason on earth for your bill to have gone up 50%, unless there was something wrong with the old meter, and you were being charged too little, and now the new meter has 'corrected' it.
I don't see what your tariff has got got do with it; if your bill is normally £75 a month during the winter months, and now it's £120, then something is clearly amiss. If BG are saying 'it's correct,' it's up to you to prove otherwise I'm afraid. Not sure how, unless there is a way to add up the units and see how much each one is, and then add them up.
Alternatively, you could threaten to switch suppliers. And maybe even do so.
Any reason *why* you opted for a smart meter?
If you are not happy and don't get any joy from BG; maybe switch suppliers, and get them to put in 'normal' meters.
I would. If I were you.
Good luck.
Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!
You're not singing anymore........ You're not singing any-more!

As per Hengus's post: This winter has been much colder than the last two. My usage and therefore bills have been higher than last year.
Saying I always pay £75 per month is meaningless as you do not know what your usage is. If your usage is higher your bill will be higher.
You need to start monitoring your KWH per day.
@Lily-Rose - although I am not impressed by the current smart meter roll out. It is very unlikely that the smart meter is the cause of the issue.0 -
A £45 difference, which makes it around a tenner a week.
£10 a week extra can be easily be used in this current cold spell. The chances of your new meter being faulty are slim, and to be out by a factor of 50% are even slimmer.0
