    Engine type? Diesel/Petrol?
If Diesel does it do enough miles to a) use up any summer diesel that may be left in the tank? b) to keep things like the DPF in good order?

    It's got fuel?

When was it last serviced and was the fuel filter changed?

Has it been serviced to schedule?

    Charge the battery up first!

I may be wrong here but I'm going to guess it's a lack of maintenance issue.

It could be anything. See if you have got a spark and take it from there. No spark could mean crank sensor, or key/immobiliser issue. If there is spark, then could be fuel pump or fuel pump relay.

Does the engine not actually start and run? Or is it that it won't turn over on the starter?

Cold weather tends to show up any battery / charging problems. Although if you have jumped it off another vehicle it should start I'd have thought.

Depends if they're using proper jump leads with nice thick cables or those mickey mouse bits of string masquerading as jump leads you can find in Poundland.

OP if you do just short journeys you'll never put back the charge in that is taken out starting the car, even more so at this time of year when the lights, heater and demister are going to be using a large lump of what the alternator is putting out leaving even less to charge the battery with.

Its a micra. Mickey mouse cables will be fine.

You don't want to JUMP start the car, its not dead.

You need to CHARGE the car. You can do this with jumper cables.

    Red to Red
    Black on good car
Other black should stick on to an unpainted metal surface (Like the boot hook of the micra car)

Then turn on the good car and leave for 10 mins

This will charge your car. Then try turning your car and let it turn for 30 secs it should start

Thereafter, take off black black red red

Thereafter, get your alternator checked out and also buy a battery charger. Aldi or Lidl one of those do a very good one apparently and its like 5 or 15 quid.
