That's your prerogative doug, but I'm happy there will be no surprises for me come January because...I am still of the opinion that if you just do it anyway you risk being very disappointed when your interest gets added at the end of the year.
- There's nothing in the RS T&C's that would preclude such a funding mechanism, and
- I was able to set up the RS as one of my 3 "other accounts with us", by simply entering the 10 digit account number, and
- I was told when the account was opened (by both branch and call centre staff) that my method of funding was perfectly acceptable.

... and I have received the full correct interest by using this method.
A bit pointless to ask for advice, get it, then don't believe it. Probably best not to ask in the first place.0 -
I think you might have got confused about the issue here and are missing the point. I was not questioning the fact that the BACS you do are acceptable, it is if internal transfers are. They will surely be able to tell the difference in those transactions if they care to.... and I have received the full correct interest by using this method.

It seems that what YorkshireBoy has been told verbally is in contradiction to what I have been told by that email from a Web Representative.
Personally I would get it in writing. I am no longer interested for myself because I am sticking to SO now after accidentally forgetting to do a BACS one month so I have no lives left, and there is no automatic way to do internal transfers.0 -
Yep, you're right ... I was commenting about external transfers. Sorry about the confusion.0

two questions for anyone who has opened this ybs regular saver:
I just opened a YBS account, and received my passbook, but there is no details such as sort code or account number - it has the 10 digit account number but no 8 digit account number. How can I set up a standing order without the sortcode?? am I missing something?
secondly, I sent the opening deposit which has been credited to the account. Can I now make my first monthly deposit or do I have to wait until November?
of course, I know I could ask YBS this, but I don't want to pay to be put on hold for ten minutes, and I don't want to have to wait 7 days for them to reply to emails!
thanks0 -

Account No: first 8 digits of your 10 digit account number
Reference: your 10 digit account number
You can make as many payments as you like during the month, so long as you don't deposit more than £500.secondly, I sent the opening deposit which has been credited to the account. Can I now make my first monthly deposit or do I have to wait until November?
Can't speak for e-mails, but I don't remember ever being on hold when I've rung them. You can find a cheaper number from www.saynoto0870.comof course, I know I could ask YBS this, but I don't want to pay to be put on hold for ten minutes, and I don't want to have to wait 7 days for them to reply to emails!0 -
thanks yorkshireboy! i just realised after i posted that the standing order form came with the original application form - sorry! shouldn't be so impatient next time. guess i was just excited about getting the passbook after waiting nearly a week for the post!0
