It's a loss leader. It won't cost them £99, though even if they make a loss on it, they've gained you as a customer 'for life', as in theory now your dog is registered and due to go there every year, they'll probably get your business for everything else.
Plus they'll make money on the customers who pay the £99 instead of £62 but move out of the area/rehome the dog/don't take it for boosters, etc.
Personally, cost aside, I would recommend doing research on whether your dog actually needs annual vaccinations. Even some of the vaccine protocols are only once every 3 years, and the effects of vaccines can last longer than that. Overvaccination can have side effects, so worth doing some reading up.0 -
Never joined because I don't vaccinate, I don't believe its safe for any animal to be boostered each year.I just enter and forget...hoping to win something!0

I thought this was going to be a thread about a vacuum that did not clog with pet hair, so disappointed!:rotfl:0

I only vacc my 2 every year as the boarding kennels insist on it, well the council granting their licence insist on it.Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

It's normally about 35 pounds a year for a cat booster so paying 3x upfront would put me off. I don't ever like the idea of having to "pre pay" for something unless absolutely essential. It's like some hotels that cut their price if you pre-pay but I would rather pay a bit more and pay on checkout.0

Have you seen this?
http://www.dogworld.co.uk/story.php/160832/0/cieh_issues_new_guidance_endorsing_titre_blood_tests
NEW GUIDANCE from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) means that unnecessary inoculations may no longer have to be carried out.
For the first time the institute has accepted a titre blood test to show the dog’s level of immunity against infectious diseases, which could preclude unnecessary but mandatory vaccinations.
This guidance is for boarding kennels and local authorities.
This endorsement from some of the main veterinary and animal welfare bodies means that owners, whether kennelling their dogs or not, can be sure of the science supporting such a test.

Thanks for posting that Sheramber.
So the search begins to find a kennels that will accept a titre test! And a lurcher that climbs, jumps 8'........Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -
I have always had my dogs vaccinated, with no problems, but have seen a dog with terrible distemper....taken to our vets, but luckily spotted by the receptionist, who called the vet to escort the owner back to his vehicle. The dog was a GSD, with vile excretions from his nose, runny eyes, hunched back and obviously in pain.
The dog with me was vaccinated, but I worried for quite some time, until it was clear that she was fine.0
