Waterlogged foundation

Hi,

We have just dug out the footings for our extension (1 metres deep) and have a solid clay base. However, once left overnight, the trench begins to fill with water (there are no leaking pipes). I guess this is this just rising ground water (high water tables) and needs to be pumped out before BC can inspect/pass the footings.

Do we need to inform the BC of water logging or its best just to let them see the footings without water?
Do we need to ensure anything else to future proof the foundation? I guess water will not affect the concrete but thought best to ask.

Thanks for any help

All you will need to do is bottom out the footings before pouring concrete ( clear away any waterlogged clay) . The water will have no effect on the concrete.

Clay? Me think you'll be needing pilings :(

    BCO will offer correct advice...

Presumably foundations have been designed? But not withstanding that clay certainly does not guarantee piling. Many buildings are constructed on traditional foundation methods in clay soil.

As above yo need to dewater the excavation prior to the bco turning up to inspect. Dig a small sump at one end to pump the water out from. Once you e done this the waterlogged surface needs to be scrapped off to good ground.
Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!
