    Hi all

    Hope you can help.

I need to replace my laptop battery (HP Probook 4720s). I found an identical one on Aliexpress for around £44 but the delivery time is.. well.. 20-40 days.
I've also found 2 similar ones cheaper in the UK, although with slightly different specs. Is there any danger in getting cheap replacement?

You mean apart from fire or explosion?

OK, it is not that likely but even reputable manufactures have had some well publicised problems. Any lithium battery has the potential to turn itself into a firework or smoke grenade in the event of a fault during charging or if short circuited or punctured.

You pay your money and take your choice!

    good-batteries registered in China

power supplier also registered in China

So your probably getting the same junk batteries.

The danger is the cells maybe substandard, you will have no warranty because they are not
    a UK company.
They may claim to be 4000Ah but in reality your lucky if they are half that.

Check youtube for fake 18650 batteries which is what your battery pack is made from.
Half empty tubes, or packed with sand to add weight. One 3000Ah battery had
a 180Ah battery inside and packed with flour.

I used these for my HP Presario. Although it failed to charge after four months I emailed them and they sent a replacement, no quibble, which was fine. https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?merchant=A1MW2FLGFHOKKG&fallThrough=1
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

    Forget the Ali sites

You can get decent batteries on eBay, I have for years and no scaremongering re fires.

It was EE who gave a USB device promoted by MSE that caught fire before the self important nit pickers dive in just because it makes them feel important.

Check the feedback of the eBay supplier, you might also want to see if they have any 9 cell versions and how they look. Mine give me around 6 hours when new, now 2 years later around 3.5 hours.

I have some software called BatteryInfoView that will check the status of the battery when it arrives as some suppliers refurb batteries, one supplier did that to me, I sent them a screenshot, they sent me new battery and refunded me.

Make sure the ebay supplier is delivering from the UK, they tend to use a fulfilment company in Southall.
