£100 fine for missing £1 parking

I recently got a £100 fine ('Parking charge Notice') for missing a £1 parking fee.

I have heard in the past that making a partial payment makes it very difficult for a company to chase you for payment in court. Something like if you pay some of a debt the issue becomes one of negotiation about the amount of the debt rather than non payment and they can't prosecute you for non payment.

Is there any utility in this. Should I send them a cheque for £1?

Thanks

Hubert.

Please read the Sticky thread for NEWBIES to get any ideas that misinformed friends and family may have told you about parking charges out of your head.

The whole industry is unregulated, and is set up to make money from people like me and thee. The scammers won't care and don't want £1 from you. They want £100 and even if you offer, or been send the £1, they will still come after you for £100.
The £1 would go to the landowner, not the parking company who want their pound of flesh.

Some companies like Parking Eye issue about 30ooo court papers per year, some for a mispayment of as little as 10p.

Please tell us the date of the alleged event, the name of the parking scammers, whether there was a windscreen ticket, and the date of the postal notice to keeper (if you have one.)

They cannot prosecute you, it's a civil matter.

I should imagine that, if they entered a claim for £154 including collection costs, and you sent them £100 and told them to ask the judge for the rest, they might be inclined to back down.
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.
