Bank Transfer refund

Hi, I have sent money to a guy for a book, bear in mind we are only dealing with £10 here. He wants to give me a refund because the book never turned up which is very gracious of him, can he go into his bank and just tell them to refund back to my account.
The reason I ask this is because he wants my bank details and I'm not really OK giving them to him, although he has given his so that I could pay him.
His bank is RBS and mine is Lloyds if that makes any difference.

There's probably little risk in giving him your sort code and account number - it's written plainly on every cheque and people have always been happy to hand those to strangers.
But how did you pay him? If it was by bank transfer then he must have given you his bank details and so why worry about doing the reverse.
If it was by other means why can't he refund you the same way? E.g. if it was via Paypal he can just refund the money via Paypal. It might cost him a small fee, but it would save you having to go to any trouble.
Which bank you and he uses is irrelevant - bank transfers are easy between any bank.0 -
Just got a reply and the answer is an emphatic NO!0

I asked the bank and by giving out bank details the risk is; according to them, negligible, so I have sent my details to him and we will see.
I wouldn't want to rip him off so I have said that if the book does ever turn up I would repay him.0 -
He's right, the answer is no. The only options are for you to give him your account details, as you have done, or for him to refund you with a cheque or cash. What you've done will be fine.0
