Refused for a credit card

Hi,
I've been with my bank for a few years and have some decent savings. I've never been in overdraft with them, and was living at home so no bills or anything. I recently applied for a credit card with them and was refused.
Could this be because I don't have much credit history? I've never checked my credit record, but I don't think I'd have much on it. I applied for the credit card in order to build up my history, I was planning on making one purchase a month and paying it back right away.
I'm not quite sure what to do now, should I try to get a different card? Should I check my record?
Thanks

Definatly check your credit report. Check Clearscore and noddle which are free. It's also worth signing up to the MSE credit club, you will have all 3 reports covered then which is important. Don't apply for anymore cards until you have done so.0

Just because you have existing accounts with your bank, it doesn't give any extra weight to the credit card application and it could be that it's the wrong card for you. Signing up to the free CRA services should hopefully let you see if anything stands out as to why you may have been rejected. They usually will show which cards you have a higher chance of acceptance.0
