Right to cancel before dispatch - Dodgy online company

The short story is that my dh has purchased a bed for our small daughter online.

Tbh I'm partly to blame because when he asked I said "yeah sounds good" and didn't do my usual digging.

It's since come to light that this company trade under multiple names, don't deliver the correct goods, try and charge you £50 for returns (faulty or otherwise) and the goods are below par. Going to try to cancel today but there's all sorts of "admin" charges they stipulate on their (very badly spelt) faqs page.

As it's an online order, I'm entitled to my cooling off period etc can I be charged any type of fee if the goods haven't even been dispatched yet?

Oh dear...I'm not 100% on this but I *think* you won't have S75 protection, then.

Yes, just checked, payments through intermediaries (e.g. PayPal) aren't covered.

Such payments "may" be covered, but it's a very grey area. The probability is that they won't, and that's why such companies only offer paypal as a payment mechanism.

No protection from the credit card company then.

You may be covered by PayPal buyer protection though, although that's a lot more finicky than S75.

Have you cancelled the order yet?
If you are going to do so, then sned an email - a phone call may not be good enough.

They cannot charge a fee when returning goods in this situation - not an admin fee, a restocking fee, or any other type of fee.

If the goods are delivered after you have cancelled the order, it is probably best to refuse the delivery.

The cost of returning goods after you have accepted the delivery may well be down to you.

A link to the seller's website would be useful.
