ladies - epilator or ladyshaver?

Options
out to buy one of the above, but not sure which to plump for. i currently shave my legs in the bath with a normal bic razor and whatever happens to be to hand soap-wise. this works fine, but is a lot of faff if i need to get silky smooth pins quickly (ie getting ready for the gym).

im intrigued by the idea of epilators, but have never used one and am scared that it might hurt. i imagine it to be a similar sensation to plucking or waxing your legs - am i close? if you have one, would you recommend them - obviously it would dramatically cut down the amount of shaving required! does it leave your legs red the way waxing can?

any thoughts/advice gratefully received :D

I've got one and I haven't ever managed to do one leg yet (had it a couple of years), It really hurts, but i have very corse hair, if you are used to waxing and have more fine hair its probably ok just take a painkiller half hour beforehand and drink lots of wine lol

BTW I also have a device called simply smooth by babyliss, that uses the silkymit but is the lazy persons version and this does not hurt, leaves my legs smooth in about 2 minutes for about 2-3 days, only thing is you have to replace the heads when they get worn down (I haven't yet because I hardly use it)

  • If you have thick hair, you will cry.

    I bled :(
    de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar ;)
  • I waxed, then picked off the bits i missed with the epilator... I go back with the epilator every few days and pick off some more.

I'm in ingrowing hair hell :( But at least the lush forest is now more like pasture :D

The sensation is prickly really... but you control how hardcore you want to be... I do it in bursts - you get used to the pain :) I've not yet had to resort to painkillers ;)

When I bought my Phillips satinelle ice thingamyjog they had a deal where you could return it if you didn't like it.

i use an epilator, it was tough at first, but now its a doddle, your hairs do get finer, and become easier (ie less painful) to pull out..
I also use the epilator on my armpits and bikini line. I have one with a massage attachment, basically its a thing that vibrates against your skin, supposed to help your skin recover from the pain of getting hairs plucked out of it. It does work quite well.

The downsides, my legs dont ever feel smooth because there are often new hairs coming through that are too short to pluck, get lots of ingrowing hairs so need to keep on top of exfoliating, and you do need to have a (quick) once over every few days to get the new [STRIKE]b***ers[/STRIKE] hairs coming through..

I still use it over shaving though, because even if your legs dont always feel smooth, they do look hair free
We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic. ;)

  • Epilator. I don't find it painful on my legs which were used to being waxed. Can't use it on underarms though:eek:

Ladyshavers are crud, they leave little spikey bits as they dont shave far enough to the skin.
Epilators- the first time you use one it kills, yeah, but after that its not so bad as the hairs grow back at different rates. What i do is use an epilator every day for 5 mins to get the new hairs, then i don't need to shave in the bath at all.
The first time you use an epilator it hurts more as the hair is generally all the same length and all the hairs will be thru...so lots of hair to remove. When it starts growing back (much slower) they come through at diffeent rates so if you keep up with it 5 mins a day is enough.
If you aren't really hairy like me though you'll probably only need to use it once a week for 10 mins

Don't use it when you are cold the first time. It left me with chicken skin that lasted a week!

  • I use an epilator and it does not hurt on the legs. Under arm is a bit snsitive but I still do it because it lasts such a long time.

thanks to you all for responding.

i really am in a quandry. dont mind shaving at all to be honest (find it therapeutic in a way  ) so its not like im adverse to shaving, just looking for a suitable stop gap for when i cant be bothered to run a bath just to do my legs (i cant do it in the shower to save my life, i have no sense of balance :o :rotfl: ) or if i need to bare my legs at short notice.

im not thrilled about the prospect of ingrowing hairs, and all that exfoliating sounds like hard work to me. but having said all that, there's still something about epilators that attracts me. curiosity probably, knowing me!

anyone else out there with with any input?
