Economy 10 Storage Heater - Eon
Comments
-
Hi HelenaI’ve been on the phone to your company all week without much luck. I’m basically trying to understand if there is anyway I can change my storage heater system so that they are NOT restricted to the Economy 10 off peak hours. I want to have control over when they come on and go off. You mentioned that in some cases the meter is directly wired into the storage heater system. My question is how can I change that? Yesterday, EON fitted in a smart meter. Will this help me gain control of my storage heaters? Any help is most welcome.
Hi Unkle77 and welcome to the forums,
I assume you've had smart economy 10 meter fitted?
Did the engineer leave a manual? Or you could speak to the manufacture.
We do have a simpler metering department that you can speak to, but I do think this may need an electrician to have a look at the wiring, as set ups can be different.
Speak to simpler metering first (it sounds like you've just spoken to the contact centre so far) as the electrician would be up to you to sort.
Sorry I can't help with the specifics.

I does sound like you have been given bad advice by eon and have been talked into having a smart meter, which will certainly not help you "gain control" of your storage heaters.
Presumably you were informed that unless you have a smart meter fitted, there would be a charge for changing your non-faulty meter.
Using storage heaters on standard rate is a ridiculous idea and you should have been informed that if you have electric E10 heating you need an electrician to check the wiring before having the meter changed.0 -

- no supplier has changed your wiring, 2 tail's in = no change
- the supplier has never been in your home
- E7 or E10 is a tariff, timings are regional
- it comes on for an available 7 / or / 10 hours
- neither SMETS1 & the yet to be rolled out 2 do not function correctlyI want to have control over when they come on and go off
You never had, not will ever have, control other than the switch on / off switch on the heater or the CU unit, your area code number is on your electricity bill.
Coulda shoulda wouda refused one. You volunteered so you've got one. You can have it removed at your possible cost. Best of luck.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
