Will my Skype phone work if I move from BT to Plusnet?

I'm pretty sure this would be OK but I've finally got fed up with BT's high costs and I'm thinking of jumping ship to Plusnet. BT would only offer me £7 off per month to stay with them and I can save £13 per month going to Plusnet and I'll get £50 cashback.
Anyway, the only unknown is my skype phone. The missus uses this for her business calls and she has a 'local code' skype number, which she rents. A little box plugs into the back of the Hub and the phone sits in another room and communicates via this little box.
Can anyone confirm that this will still work when I switch suppliers, using a new Hub that Plusnet will send me? I'm sure it will, it just needs to be connected to the internet.
The reason I ask is that I can't really understand how the system knows the skype phone number is relevant to our house. Is the phone somehow linked to an IP address generated by the hub, or by the connection to our house? Or maybe the little box that connects to the hub generates an IP address and it's that that's associated with the skype number? If so, I could take the box and phone next door and plug it into the neighbours hub and it would still work?
As I say, I've no idea how a skype phone, with a designated number, actually works. Perhaps we gave our landline number when we set up the skype number account and the skype system uses this to locate the skype phone?
Thanks.
PS if anyone thinks that would be better posted in the Techie section, let me know.

Yes, it will just work™.
The Skype service operates independently to your internet service provider.
To expand, the phone will initiate a connection to the Skype service. This is how incoming calls are then routed to your wife's handset.
You are correct in that you could take your handset to your neighbours house and plug it in there and it should just work from there.0 -

Thanks. I thought that would be the case. So, you're saying that I just plug the little interface box into the new router and bobs yer uncle? Of course I'll have a look at the phones instruction booklet to see if it covers that eventuality. That might be a first!0
