Named driver NCD?

Hi,

I've been a named driver on my wife's car insurance for donkeys years (she has 12 years NCD). I'm looking at using my father-in-law's car for about a year, possibly longer so need to get insurance for myself. My wife's current policy is with Swiftcover - She's emailed them to see if they can offer me a decent quote.
My question is, can I use any NCD earned on my wife's policy?
Are there any particular companies I should be trying?

Thanks in advance of any help in not having to pay a fortune!

Hi not you cannot the NCD will be in the lead policy holders name only !

You won't have anything, there are companies now offering the named drivers NCD I think it's either Aviva or direct line.

However with your age, how long you've had your licence and if you have had no accidents, your premium is unlikely to be high. Also put your wife on yours as a named driver. Will also be good for your premiums.

Also go on comparison websites, such as confused, go compare etc.

This will give you a good idea of quotes. And I checked it's direct line who let named drivers accrue NCD, but it's more internal. As in they would count it in their quotes but not with other companies.
  • Thanks for that.

Quotes with no NCD are around £700-£800 so far :(
  • Sorry, this is incorrect. Many companies will offer what is known as an Introductory Discount. It isn't as much as a full NCD, but could be up to 2 years - better than nothing. If it isn't offered, ask for it.

As well as the insurers on comparison sites, try the likes of Direct Line and More Than (call them - the online screen isn't designed for even slightly unusual situations). Also ask for a quote from the company your wife is currently insured through - you might get a multi car deal as well!!
No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...

What is incorrect? Are you saying that NCB is applicable to any driver of the car?
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
