hi there looking for some help my pc has just died
iv'e had it for about 2 years now the problem is this now its hard to explain but i will try
i formatted after the machine kept turning itself off and trying to restart back up on installing the instalation discs i had to do this a few times before it would take, i then managed to format after a few days i noticed it kept turning off again sometimes it would reboot others it wouldnt, so i scanned the whole drives for virus's or trojans nothing all clean
one morning after unplugging the system and checking the fan etc which was dusty i put the pc on and it when into restart mode again trying to reboot without any luck and died ....... all i get now is a clicking noise (maybe trying to start ) i don't know whats wrong i have know idea how much this is going to cost i have no cover and i brought the system from pc world in london and have since moved north.
does anyone know what this could be i loved my pc it cost me a bit and im not sure if im gonna need to buy a new base as i have the tft monitor, keyboard etc.
any help or advise please ?

I'll hazard a guess - when you hit the Power-on button is the noise you hear the button or something from within the case ?
If it's the power button it's possible your Motherboard has died (same happened to me 3 weeks ago).
If it's something from within the case i'd guess it's the hard disk....

hi a pint of stella, it just sounds like a clicking from the front somewhere !!!!! within the middle of the case on the front if you see what i mean ?
is it expensive to have any of them replaced i would like an idea before i go and find a shop to fix it it's worrying me a bit0 -
Sounds like the hard drive to me aswell, the fan that you can hear whirring and the hard drive are the only moving parts in a computer (there are two fans) I'm not including cdrom or dvd but if you have no disks in then they shouldn't move.
So thier is only the sound of the fan and the hard drive which has an arm that move across the disk (visually similar to a record player), it usually make this clicking noise when it's banging into the side of the cover and missing it's landing zone (bit like an arm rest).
Anyway a hard drive costs about £40, but that dosn't include installation, you could always try changing it yourself if you follow a guide, you need a steady hand and half a page of installation instructions.0 -
Did you ever get the blue screen before restarting? When my hard drive went after 2 months the pc would reboot with a blue screen before it eventually died and then it would boot so far then fail and all i could hear was the clicking noise of the hard drive rather than the whirring noise when booting. It wasnt too hard to change, just watch what you are unplugging and plug back into new one checking jumper switch is in the same place as original and format then install o.s with windows disc. The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

The clicking could be the floppy drive. If the Bios cant get the hard drive to boot and the floppy is next bootable thing,it might be trying to find a bootable floppy. If not the floppy,it might be checking the disc drives to find a bootable cd.0

You could try unplugging your cdrom drives, hard drive & floppy drive and then seeing if it turns on if it does plug the items back in 1 by 1 untill u possibly find the culprit.
Dont plug them in with the system on thlough!0
