I keep my oil in a glass jug so I can drizzle it into the pan and use less, but the jug leaks and I end up with sticky old oil on my worktops. After an almighty battle tonight involving salt, washing up liquid, bleach and then Cillit Bang (which I don;t think you're supposed to use on worktops) I need an OS way of getting this muck off.
I KNOW I should wipe it off each time but you know how it is
So what can I use? I tried with a scourer but ended up with green plastic all over the oily muck - making it worse!!
It still looks a bit dodgy now
What can I do?

I'm not sure if this would work - but I would try pouring a small about of very hot water (near to boiling as possible) to help disolve the oil then a good dose of an old fashion detergent such as star drops or washing up liquid. Or stand the jug on a saucer - so only this gets oiled up and not your worktop.
Hope this helps!!

We have a decorators scraper in the kitchen for precisely this sort of job. Also v good when you are doing baking, just lightly scrape the scraper along the top and the gunk comes off! Also good round the side of cookers if you have an integral hob sometimes theres little gaps where the steel meets the worktop. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Try white vinegar, suposed to cut through grease.0

What is your worktop made out of? Brillo pads are outstanding at getting old grease off things. If the worktop is made out of wood or something that could scratch, scrape some of the pink soap out of the brillo pad and scrub it into the oil with an old stiff toothbrush.
I do this in some of the joints of my cooker and it works every time0 -
I use one of those thingys that have a blade in that you use to scrape paint off glass... it works a treat and if you are careful doesn't scratch the surface...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

THanks all - the worktop is whatever they make average worktops out of! White plasticy stuff.
I've scraped most of it off but am left with a yellowy stain that won;t come off. I am scared to use a scourer as the plastic one kinda fell apart and left green all over the worktop and a metal one would probably scratch it.
Need to get a pretty tile to sit my oil jug on I think.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

A mixture of bicarbonate and borax can be good for stains, dampen with a little water and leave the paste over the stain for a while. Scrub with a damp cloth and then rinse.0

Hi guys I need some cleaning advice!
I noticed yesterday that our fryer had leaked, and it must've been for a couple of days because the oil has gone hard and sticky.
I tried spraying it with kitchen cleaner and scrubbing but it doesn't want to move!
Any ideas?0 -
Is it on a surface or do you mean the fryer itself?0

Sorry it's leaked onto the kitchen worktop.0
