When probate is granted I have a flat to sell. This property is located 300 miles away. Is it best to use a solicitor close to the property, or close to me? Thanks.

I'd say close to you would be more convenient. We did have to visit ours a couple of times, though the majority was done by post & email.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0

I assume the property and you are in the same country, in particular England vs Scotland....
There is no point in trying to find a solicitor close to the property, he/she is never going to want to see it. There probably is no major advantage in having the solicitor near to you as all your interactions would almost certainly be by letter, phone or email. Though if you know of local solicitors with a good reputation you may want to use one of them.0 -
I think it's easier to find one by recommendation close to where you live. And we found it helpful when there was a particular document to be signed by all beneficiaries: I picked it up, caught the post for B1, who caught the post for B2, who caught the post for B3, and B4 went to see B3. We had it back where it needed to be in the absolute minimum amount of time, and if I hadn't been able to pick it up then we'd have needed an extra day - which when you're close to exchange of contracts can make a big difference!Signature removed for peace of mind0
