O/S Daily Monday 6th February 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark here, cold and frosty.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, and DS2 still in his pit.
Lunch yesterday was roast beef, was ok, it wasn't as tender as I would have liked, but was edible, so there's LO's of beef, yorkshires, roasties, cauli/broc cheese, so I'll be slicing the remaining meat (it was a large joint), and reheating that in a pot of gravy in the oven and using up the remaining LO's, that is likely to be Weds night. Tonight we'll be having smoked sausage and mushroom pasta in creme fraiche sauce, breaded chicken portions also for the menfolk.
Yesterday we tidied a bit more of the lastest area that needs to be decluttered, we also visited big hardware store as DH had a couple of things he needed to buy for a job he'll be doing in a few weeks time.
I'm back to work today, it's a Monday so expecting it to be busy, we'll see. I have an engineer coming out to look at my fridge/freezer - it's so noisy and freezing food in the fridge cabinet - not good, but we'll see what he has to say, luckily it's still in 5 year guarantee period.
Keep safe and well x

Morning, I am ready to start the day but quietly so that I don't wake the chaps.
No idea what to do for tonight's dinner since we ate everything last night, usually have leftovers! Possibly toad in the hole. I'll marinade chicken for a biriani tomorrow.
It is still dark (and cold) but yesterday was still light at 5 PM and that was up-cheering, longer days definitely on the way now.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -

Morning all, thanks for the thread nmlc x
DS1 was 18 yesterday. We went for lunch with DHs family - 16 of us. This was paid for by our savings. DH paid the £400 bill and as we were leaving I asked him if he'd left a tip, 'no' he said. So I pulled £40 (my only cash) from my purse. Off he went with it in his hand, to be told by the waitress 'thanks very much, service is included but I'll share this with the kitchen staff'. Speechless doesn't cover it. Why he didn't look at the bill and see this I don't know. I could weep.
None of my family were there as they accepted an invitation to my great uncles 90th birthday before checking what we were doing for DS on his ACTUAL 18th birthday. Felt a bit let down tbh. DMum didn't even call DS1 just sent an early text. Can't say anything of course as it would be insensitive to everybody involved, especially DSis who probably isn't even thinking straight due to nephews passing.
And breathe.......
Off to work early doors as I have a 9am catch up with my boss. I have an end of probation meeting on Friday so an counting down the days. DS has a couple of jobs to apply for today and I've broached the subject of getting some interview coaching. He is getting the interviews but not the job, so would be good to look at that.
Not sure what's for dinner tonight but I have a Pret voucher for a free lunch as a new branch has opened opposite our building. Will treat myself today
Have a good day all,

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting. Flippin' chilly this morning and evidence of overnight frost. No two days are alike just now.
I must make an effort to trip into town this morning. Our repeat prescription slips are to take to the surgery and there are one or two shops I want to call in. £land for some cleaning products, Bodycare for soap (Pears) as it's cheapest place I've found it and Fultons for a quick shufty to see if they have any bargainous buys of stuff nearing sell-by date! Especially small bottles of sugarfree Coke for the girls' lunchboxes as I begrudge paying sm prices for it. Also want a pack of their cooking bacon which they always have in. It's handy to chop up and freeze in small portions for soups, omelettes, pasta etc.
Not given a thought to today's menu and, because I didn't make a proper Sunday dinner, there are no leftovers to warm up. Unusual for a Monday. Plenty in the freezer when I can brave the cold garage!
Have a good day all and (HUGS) to all in need/want of one. LAINEY thinking of you. You have had such a long wait for Wednesday to arrive. Take care all whatever you are up to xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone and thanks for starting the thread NMLC. Well its a bit nippy today although dry which is something I guess .isn't it nice now the nights are drawing out a bit. Bulbs are galloping on in the garden at last so fingers crossed the frosts will stay away.
Got some paperwork to sort out this morning for renewals of things , hopefully I can find all the relevant documents in my filing system.
Finished off my book club book, and I must say I wasn't overly impressed, but some are great, and some are not, so maybe next weeks February one will be better.
Hope everyone has a good Monday, the time just seems to be whizzing by at the moment, DGS Henry is deep into revision for his GCSE's in May although he is not 16 until June. He has his 6th form interview in a couple of weeks time. His brother Jack in enjoying his first year in 6th form and apparently is doing very well according to his reports.
DGS Ben is coming home this weekend for the weekend as he is taking Jack to see a pop gig at Alleypally. Jack's first one and Ben is treating him to it, as Jack is 17 this month. Doesn't seem 5 minutes ago Jack was toddling around in baby-grows:) Nice of Ben to put himself out for his brother, bless him, they share interests in music as they both play a guitar.
Youngest DGS Mikey is still keen on being a chef at the moment ,but he is only 12 and may change his mind.
Right, time for a cuppa I think, hope you all have a good day whatever you are doing ,try to enjoy it
Cheers chums JackieO xx0 -
Coxy, belated happy birthday to your DS. I'd have been very cross about the tip as well.
We went to Ikea yesterday to price up a desk etc to furnish the study so that DH can work in there instead of on the kitchen table. It will be god to have the room used properly as it's always been a bit of a waste. When we extended we thought it would be a good idea to put the room on next to the shower room downstairs because we had thoughts that mum would maybe come to live with us eventually but that never happened. At the moment it contains two settees standing on end (to get them in and a piano, all waiting to go to DD and DS, hopefully in the next few weeks.
I need to go to Lidl for thee weekly shop, I'm still sticking to my budget although I've relaxed it a bit from the January £25 per week because the freezer is running down so I need to buy a bit of meat and fish. I also need to buy a card for DH's birthday which is on Wednesday. I've looked but seen nothing appropriate as yet, neither of us go in for flowery sentiment and I seem to have seen all the humorous ones time and again. I think internet memes have spoilt the card market for me. I might just get a plain card and write in it.
Then we're off to Yorkshire on Thursday for a few days, I hope I feel well enough to do some walking, I felt like a limp rag after IKEA yesterday.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Not much to report this morning. Hubby has left for work and the girls will be gone soon too. I am sat here with my usual bucket of tea planning my day.
I will be making a chicken and vegetable curry now I have some of my beloved courgettes in the fridge. I am hoarding food again so I need to stop now as we don't have an inch of space in the fridge, freezers or cupboards. I have nearly blown through our shopping budget for February which is very worrying. I know it is a reaction to the stress I am feeling so I will try to calm down with it now.
Half term next week which is fantastic as the girls need a breather. DD15 is supposed to be revising as is DD16 but I haven't seen much evidence of that. I shall be cracking the whip a bit over the holiday.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone,
Bright but frosty here today, it certainly feels colder and heating has clicked on.
Had a nice lunch out yesterday, the starters were a bit style over substance, but the main roast dinners more than made up for it, I chose roast gammon which was delicious but far too much meat, I asked for a doggy bag and so the girls had a treat too
This morning it's my re-arranged opticians appointment from last week, rest of the day will be chores and getting the house right for the next few days as don't want to be thinking about that.
Thinking of you Coxy it must be so tough for you all x
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0
