    I think you said the other executor was willing to / wanted to stand down. I believe it should be possible for one executor to do that, and you to go 'power reserved'. If that happened, you'd need to sign everything off, and it would also mean that if you felt the solicitors were not doing a good job you could step right back up and take the job back from them. And then instruct another solicitor - but having said that, it sounds like a reasonable quote!

    It really doesn't - this is what I did with Dad's estate. All it needs is for you to turn up to sign paperwork on a couple of occasions.

    It made things go faster for us because I knew Dad's financial affairs well enough not to bother with an advert in the Gazette. If the solicitor had become the executor, he would have had to put an advert in and then wait months to give people time to come forward with any claim on the estate.

    Power reserved don't sign off anything.
