Nationwide proof of address

My mate has applied for Nationwide account and has received a letter saying tha tthey need proof of ID & Proof of adress.
No probs with the ID, however their proof of address list seems to be very narrow.
They would only accept the bills or a mortgage statement. I find this list really weird as all other banks would accept bank and credit card statements as a proof of address.
Just wondering if anyone has an experience of openning Nationwide account with any other proof of address rather than the bill?
