Thanks A Frayed Knot. Knocked the stuffing out is a good metaphor. Sorry to hear that you've been in the same position.

The last year has been awful. What happened to dad just made us even more sure that if anything happened to either of us we would want the other to have some insurance and the house paid off. When dad died, there was still a small mortgage on his house, which now falls to my mum, it's all a bit of a mess really. That just brought home the need to be financially secure even more.

I think the December 2019 is a typo on my part. The actual end date is Dec 2018 and we will certainly be in a position to pay it off then, however To avoid overpayment penalties, we may have to make a small extra payment in Jan 2019.

Sorry, not sure I've explained myself very well. We will have all the money in Dec 2018, even if we can't completely pay off then.

Thanks beanielou. Last payment will be December due to restrictions in mortgage, but will have the money in the bank to finish a little before. We'll probably be flying in on vapours though, as we have a ball on payment due on my car at the same time as the final big payment.

It'll be all toast in January though... not champagne but bread, that's all we'll be able to afford until AMIPO (after mortgage is paid off) fully takes off in February.

The milestones are coming thick and fast now. This month the mortgage interest dropped below £1 per day.

A few more milestones have passed. Mortgage now down to £3500 (plus the savings, which are in the bank as we've maxed out overpayments).

Today is100 workdays to payoff. So every day we go to work, it's one percent off the mortgage. Nice feeling!

Hope everyone else's mortgage free dreams are progressing to plan.
