This was working fine with Windows 8.1 but now I've upgraded to windows 10,the smart ware app won't open or run at all which means that although I can see the documents I've saved to the drive, it won't do the autobackup etc.
I've tried updating the drivers deleting the software and reinstalling, and running the compatability troubleshooter (Which says incompatable programme) but it's not made any difference.
The security and drive utility apps open and work ok and are telling me that the drive status and quick drive test have passed - not had time to run the full drive test as yet.
Anything else I can try?

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

You might get it going by altering the program compatibilty settings but do you really want to rely on an "incompatible program" for your backups?
Take a look at Macrium Reflect as an alternative if you can't find a solution amongst the umpteen google hits on this problem.0 -
I was hoping that there was some other fix I might be able to try given that the hard drive itself is still working fine and wasn't cheap. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I meant that the passport was working fine with previous versions of windows. So I was hoping that there might be a patch somewhere that would get it working with windows 10. To save me having to buy a new external hard dive which I cannot currently afford. Is that any clearer? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

This will be of no comfort, but I have a My Passport drive and although I've never used the Smart Ware app for actual backups, I just tried it now and the app does start up OK on my Windows 10 PC.
This is using 32-bit Windows 10 (it's an old laptop) which might make a difference.0 -

Tricky. If you were running smartware version LESS THAN 2.0 then you have to "set up and enable a new backup plan". But a quick test is to run the smartware "with administrator" privileges to make sure that's not the problem. Details here (although I'm sure you've seen this already)
