Replacement shelf for kitchen cabinet.

At friends for Sunday lunch and noticed that one of the shelves in a kitchen cabinet has started to bow after getting liquid into it.

Is it just a case of popping into a B&Q and buying a replacement i.e. I'm guessing these things are a standard size or is it more complicated? The current shelf is white and made of a.... laminated chipboard?
Thanks

  • The most important thing really is how is the shelf fitted into the carcass?
Some of these are held in by dowels and have to go in as part of the assembly process and to replace one like this would involve trying to disassemble the whole unit.

Others are simply dropped onto a few brackets that are fixed to the sides of the unit and if it's one of these, it will easy and cheap to replace.
If you measure it then pop into somewhere like Howdens, you should be able to pick up a replacement shelf for a few £s.
If you can't find one for a reasonable price, a sheet of white laminated chipboard from B&Q will do nicely provided that it is cut squarely to size, making sure that the cut edges are sealed with something such as Unibond.
