Breakdown company had my details

I received a letter a few days ago with a cheque from Call Assist explaining they were compensating me £50 as a goodwill gesture from a complaint I made after receiving poor service when my car broke down on New Years Eve.

I've not got or never have been with Call Assist, so was very confused when I read the letter. I called them up and the young lady didn't seem to know why it had happened, but said it's the pickup company that supplies the details from the breakdowns.

Any idea how and why they would've used or mixed up my details.
I'm registered with First Aid, so not sure if they are linked in someway. I've also only had one previous breakdown in 2011 where I got picked up.

Thanks.

Possibly the breakdown company recorded the registration of the car that did break down, and made a mistake writing it down.

I wouldn't cash the cheque, you know it isn't for you.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Why don't you just return the cheque, explaining that it has been sent to you in error?

No I haven't cashed the cheque. I'm not returning it, I'll just rip it and chuck it. No, the registration plate was on the letter, not similar to mine at all
  • as the VRN is clearly different , put the cheque in a drawer for 6 mths , in case they write and ask for it back , doubtful , but it is their property

    They made a mistake.

You might want to think of all the hassle the person who was already dissapointed on New Years Day.

Send it back and then they can work out who it was really for.

Or e mail them and say thanks and say to save any extra admin for them, explain you'll bank it and make a donation to a charity.

And actually do mane a donation.
